This past Sunday, September 23rd, The KU Delta
Gamma’s held their fall philanthropy event, Anchor Splash.
Wednesday
Anchor Splash was an all week event, starting on Wednesday
with a penny wars competition. Girls
were stationed at tables on campus and had jars for every team that was
competing in Anchor Splash. People could come by and drop penny’s and dollar
bills, which were positive points, in a certain team’s jar, or drop other
coins, which were negative points, in competitors jars. Alpha Epsilon Pi ended up winning Wednesday’s
competition and helped in the DG’s goal to raise money for Service for Sight.
Thursday
On Thursday afternoon, the Delta Gamma’s held the annual
pretty eyes contest on campus. Coaches
chose their team member with the prettiest eyes and took a picture of them to
display for all of campus to see. Anyone
could walk by and put a free ticket in the jar of the person who they thought
had the prettiest eyes. Alpha Kappa Lambda
won by a landslide and received points for their team towards winning Anchor
Splash.
Friday
Coaches and their teams spent all week decorating sailor
hats to display on campus on Friday afternoon. Some houses decorated theirs
with their letters while others chose a nautical theme to represent DG. People on campus walked by and chose what
they thought was the most creative hat, and Alpha Epsilon Pi ended up winning
Friday’s competition.
Saturday
On Saturday night the DG’s spent their night making posters
and getting ready for the following morning’s Alumni brunch. They held a sisterhood event and the new
jewelry line, Stella and Dot, came to show their fall collection at a trunk
show. All DG’s enjoyed spending time
together and preparing for Sunday’s activities.
Sunday
Sunday morning started with an Alumni brunch at the house
and coaches going to make sure their teams were prepared and ready to swim.
Anchor Splash was held at the Robinson pool this year and had plenty of seating
for everyone that wanted to come watch the competition. The event started off with the different swim
races and was followed by the belly flop competition. Next was the Anchorman
competition, where one member from each team was selected to perform his talent
and answer trivia about DG. The team
member from Alpha Kappa Lambda ended up winning Anchorman and received a custom
designed sailor hat. The winner of
Anchor Splash was awarded to Alpha Epsilon Pi from all their money they raised
through penny wars and their winning sailor hat.
The KU Delta Gamma’s raised around $12,000 through Anchor
Splash, $5,000 more than last year. The girls are glad their hard work paid off
and are already looking forward to their spring philanthropy, Softball for
Sight.
